U.S. employers created a surprising 165,000 new jobs last month, according to federal data released this week.

The report indicates that the unemployment rate dipped to 4.1 percent. This figure represents a decrease from previous months, signaling a stronger labor market than many analysts had predicted.

The employment figures arrive alongside several major political and international developments. In Washington, President Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is stepping down. She will be replaced by Stephen Miller, a key member of Trump’s inner circle.

Other domestic news includes a federal court decision that temporarily blocked President Trump from breaking ground on his memorial arch. Additionally, the top federal prosecutor in Miami, who had been overseeing an investigation into foes of President Trump, has resigned from the post.

In Texas, the mayor of Houston announced that the city will limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. This move heralds a new model of immigration enforcement after Democrats won power in the state for the first time in decades.

Internationally, European officials reported more bomb threats against flights this week. These threats followed a series of hoaxes that caused flight diversions. In South America, Pope Leo XIV arrived in Uruguay to begin a three-nation tour. Meanwhile, AI stocks are recovering from a recent sell-off. In a high-profile legal case, Thomas Markle, the 82-year-old father of Prince Harry’s wife Meghan, was arrested by federal agents in Florida and charged with possessing child sexual abuse material in California.
