Comic book writer James Tynion IV and his production company Tiny Onion have secured a first-look deal with Blumhouse Atomic. The agreement ties the horror creator to the studio founded by Jason Blum and James Wan, marking a formal expansion of a relationship that began during earlier development efforts.

The first project under the banner is an adaptation of Exquisite Corpses, a comic universe co-created by Tynion and artist Michael Walsh. Blumhouse Atomic, Tiny Onion, and Lyrical Media are currently developing the property for both film and animation. The story involves a serial killer battle royale where champions from the thirteen wealthiest American families compete every five years on Halloween.

The two parties were already collaborating on a movie adaptation of Something Is Killing the Children. Director Craig Zobel recently joined that project, a connection that helped solidify the new first-look partnership. Jason Blum, CEO and co-founder of Blumhouse Atomic, said Tynion has great storytelling instincts and a passion for the horror genre.

Tynion described the Blumhouse environment as feeling like coming home. He noted that every person in the building and every filmmaker on the roster is dedicated to making great horror. The writer expressed excitement about helping bring terrifying stories to life alongside the studio's team.

Exquisite Corpses has sold more than one million copies in its first eighteen months of publication through Image Comics. The initial thirteen-issue series concluded earlier this year. Three spin-off series focusing on specific killers are currently active, and a second overarching mini-series featuring new characters is planned for next year.

Tiny Onion was established in 2024 to manage screen adaptations of Tynion's intellectual property. The company works with publishing partners including Dark Horse Comics and Penguin Random House. Tynion, who also created The Department of Truth and The Nice House on the Lake, is represented by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and TroyGould.

Blumhouse Atomic is scheduled to release nine movies in 2027. The year begins with The River on January 15. Other upcoming titles include The Exorcist: Martyrs and Curry Barker’s Anything But Ghosts. The slate concludes with Drew Hancock’s Seasons.
