500 million euros is the amount the Netherlands has committed to Ukrainian military aid, a figure announced by Prime Minister Rob Jetten on October 28. The cash is designated specifically to bolster air defence capabilities.
On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the start of a joint industrial effort called Bliksem. The project is a collaboration between defence industries in both countries.
Zelenskyy met with Jetten in the Netherlands to oversee the initiative. During the visit, they held sessions with leaders from defence, energy, and software firms. The two governments tasked their teams with developing the specific technical framework for Bliksem.
"Our teams have been tasked with working out a specific air defence project, Bliksem," Zelenskyy said. "We have already started this work. We are taking our cooperation to a level where it is clear that standing alongside Ukraine also means achieving additional positive industrial, technological, and social results."
The president did not reveal technical specifications or cost estimates for the new system. He stated that the two leaders identified key priorities for practical economic cooperation. These areas include defence production, joint technology and energy projects, industrial development, satellite technologies, and air defence.
The Dutch government is also providing 1.2 billion euros in non-military aid over the next three years. This funding supports recovery and reconstruction efforts while opening markets for Dutch businesses. Additionally, the Netherlands will contribute 10 million euros to the Industrial Ramstein initiative.
