President Donald Trump publicly offered the position of White House press secretary to UFC founder Dana White on Saturday. The announcement, made via Truth Social while Trump was at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, comes amid a period of significant instability in the executive office. White, who was in London for a boxing event, confirmed he intends to meet with the president in Washington on Monday.
In his post, Trump referred to White as “the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior.” He urged the UFC boss to accept the role, stating, “Dana, please take the job!” Trump also requested that White bring several UFC fighters to serve as “assistants,” claiming the administration needs them to “defend us against the Lunatic Left.”
White did not immediately accept or reject the offer. At a news conference in London, he addressed the question of balancing the new role with his existing duties in the fighting world. “Yeah, I got a lot of jobs already,” White said, appearing briefly puzzled by the logistical challenge. He declined to detail previous conversations with Trump, adding, “I'm sure I'll have more to talk about after that.”
Prior to the press conference, White shared a screenshot of Trump’s post on Instagram. Alongside the image of the social media message, he posted a photo of himself standing behind the podium in the White House press briefing room. The caption read, “On to the next chapter.” Neither the White House nor a UFC spokesperson responded to inquiries about the post on Saturday.
The offer arrives as Trump’s administration faces a major personnel shift. The president lost control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, with Democrats securing historic victories in districts previously held by Republicans for decades. On Friday, Trump replaced longtime adviser Susie Wiles with Stephen Miller as chief of staff. Miller, known for architecting hard-line immigration policies, is a central figure in Trump’s inner circle.
The press secretary position has been vacant since Karoline Leavitt departed at the end of August. A brief tenure by Katie Zacharia ended after five days, during which she appeared uncomfortable in her only press appearance. Trump has attended several UFC events since returning to the White House in January 2025. In June, the two hosted a 250th-anniversary celebration on the South Lawn, where a temporary Octagon was erected near the residence.
White has spoken at the Republican National Convention in 2016, 2020, and 2024. During his London appearance, he also discussed expanding the Zuffa Boxing organization, which he runs with Saudi Arabian backers, and increasing its global event schedule. He described the potential new role as the next step in his professional life, though he did not specify a timeline for a decision.
The meeting in Washington is scheduled for Monday. White is expected to arrive shortly after his London commitments conclude. Trump remains without a permanent chief spokesperson as the administration navigates the post-midterm political landscape.
