North American movie theaters reported a sharp drop in attendance this past weekend, with Halloween keeping many patrons away from screens on Saturday. Studio estimates released on Sunday project that the holiday weekend will gross approximately $56 million. If confirmed, this figure would represent the second-lowest box office total of the year, trailing only the record set earlier in the calendar.

The weekend was led by the documentary “You Can See Everything,” which narrowly beat the DC Studios film “Clayface” for the top spot. The film, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, earned an estimated $10.6 million across 2,655 screens during its third weekend in release. This marks the first time the picture has claimed the number one position in the domestic market.

“Clayface” finished second with $10.4 million, losing the top spot by a margin of $200,684. The Warner Bros. release saw its ticket sales fall by 57 percent compared to its opening weekend. Its national total now stands at $44.1 million, a figure that slightly exceeds its reported production budget of $44 million.

Laika’s animated feature “Wildwood” took third place after expanding its release by 150 screens. The Fathom Entertainment title is now playing in 3,100 theaters in the United States and Canada. It earned an estimated $7.5 million, a 39 percent decline from its previous weekend, bringing its cumulative total to $25.9 million.

Rounding out the top five were the fantasy comedy “Wicker” with $4.1 million and “Street Fighter” with $3.2 million. In notable expansions, the independent film “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York” added more than 1,000 screens in its second weekend. This increase helped the Sundance favorite secure a spot in the top ten with $1.9 million in earnings.

Netflix’s limited theatrical release of the World War II film “The Mosquito Bowl” earned $455,000 across 349 screens. Meanwhile, “La Bola Negra” brought in $418,000 in just 38 theaters for its third weekend, raising its lifetime total to $1.2 million. Despite the weak weekend performance, the national box office remains 17 percent higher than the same period last year, with annual totals nearing $8.5 billion.
