Dorian Kevon Robertson, a 22-year-old resident of Joliet, faces a murder charge following the fatal shooting of a young woman inside a Walmart in Hammond, Indiana. The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, November 2, 2026, and led to a rapid police response that secured the suspect at the scene.

Lake County coroner’s officials identified the victim as Dakota Norwood, age 21, from Chicago. She worked at the store located on 5th Avenue. A forensic autopsy took place on Tuesday at the Lake County Forensic Science Center in Crown Point. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide resulting from multiple gunshot wounds.

Hammond police officers reported that Norwood and Robertson had known each other and were in a romantic relationship. The specific duration and details of that connection remain under active investigation. Witnesses described a verbal exchange between the two that quickly escalated into a physical struggle.

Robertson allegedly drew a firearm during the altercation and fired multiple shots at Norwood. She sustained the injuries that proved fatal. Police placed Robertson in custody at the store and later booked him into the Lake County Jail. He remains charged with murder.

The alarm was raised at approximately 9:09 a.m. by an off-duty Hammond officer working security at the location. That officer confirmed a shooting had occurred and that the suspect was already under control. The Hammond Police Department sent condolences to Norwood’s family, friends, and coworkers in a written statement.
