Judge Diane D'Agostini ordered a new $500,000 bond and issued a bench warrant for Ramzi Braham on Wednesday. The 54-year-old man failed to appear in 48th District Court for a scheduled probable cause conference on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Court records confirm his absence triggered the immediate legal action.
Braham was originally charged with making a false report or threat of terrorism. He was released from custody on Oct. 30 after posting $2,500, which represented 10% of the initial $25,000 bond set at arraignment. The judge raised the financial requirement by a factor of 20 following his missed court date.
The incident began on Oct. 19 at a 7-Eleven located at 4890 West Maple Road in Bloomfield Township. Police received a call around 9:45 a.m. reporting that Braham was acting erratically. He reportedly stole a pack of cigarettes and yelled at customers, stating he was a terrorist and referencing explosions before fleeing the store.
Bloomfield Township police arrested Braham that same day and booked him into the Oakland County Jail. The investigation continued on Oct. 22 when officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 6200 block of Darramoor Road. Oakland County SWAT team members and Michigan State Police assisted during the operation.
Under state law, the charge of making a false report or threat of terrorism carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Failure to appear for a court hearing may result in additional criminal charges being filed against the defendant.
