A 13-year-old girl died on Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a Friday afternoon crash in Bordentown Township.
The accident occurred in the 500 block of U.S. Route 130, near a QuickChek. Bordentown Township officials reported that at least two e-scooters lay on the ground near a crosswalk, and several vehicles were stopped at the scene. A black pickup truck with front-end damage was also present.
Emergency personnel from police, fire, and EMS units provided immediate care to the victim. Medics airlifted her to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. She remained in the hospital until her death on Sunday.
The victim was a student at Bordentown Regional Middle School. Township officials released a written statement expressing condolences to her family, friends, and classmates. They described the community as heartbroken and noted that first responders who treated the girl were also deeply affected.
Abby Beckner, a neighbor, said she heard loud screaming on Friday afternoon. She noted that such sounds are common due to children on scooters and bikes in the area. However, she noticed vehicles stopping in the middle of the intersection, which signaled an accident. Beckner said e-scooters are frequently seen along that stretch of roadway.
The statement from township officials included the words, "It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of a young girl from our community." They added that no words can ease such a loss and that they are holding the girl's circle close in their thoughts.
