U.S. Marshals tactical teams rescued a 10-year-old girl from a home in Oregon City on Wednesday afternoon. The girl had been taken from an apartment in Canby earlier that morning. Marshals said they found her tied up in a closet. She was transported to a hospital following the rescue.

Investigators stated that a man entered the apartment at 1:39 a.m. He injured a 12-year-old child during the incident. The older child was rushed to the hospital and remained under treatment as of Wednesday afternoon. The suspect, identified as Vince Edgar Chavez, attempted to flee through the back of the Oregon City home. Marshals arrested him at the scene.

The parents of the children are cooperating with investigators. Canby Police Department officials addressed community questions regarding the absence of an Amber Alert. Police stated that the department had not yet gathered the specific information required to issue the alert at the time the girl was taken.

Carus Elementary, the school where the 10-year-old is a student, increased its police presence during the afternoon dismissal. The district cited an abundance of caution as the reason for the additional security. School officials expressed support for the family in a public statement, saying their hearts were with the child and her family.
