The Kankakee Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace has issued a call for volunteers to assist with bed deliveries scheduled throughout November. The organization aims to place beds in the homes of local children before the holiday season begins.

The chapter stated that beds are ready for transport but requires additional hands to move them into the homes of the children. Co-president Tim Zydek, who started the nonprofit in March 2018, emphasized the need for community support to meet this goal.

Five specific delivery windows are open for sign-up. The first is Saturday, November 7, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The second is Thursday, November 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A third window is Sunday, November 15, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The final two are Thursday, November 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Saturday, November 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers can register through the organization's website or join group delivery opportunities. The chapter noted that individuals do not need to construct the beds to participate. Delivering and assembling the furniture allows another child in the community to have a dedicated sleeping space.

The group operates under the motto "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town." It hosts bed-building events and produces an average of 200 to 250 beds annually. More information and available dates are listed on the chapter's website and Facebook page.
