Marecko Green, a 42-year-old Chicago resident, was charged with a felony firearm offense on Oct. 28 after deputies discovered a loaded gun in his South Side apartment. The weapon was located at the foot of his bed during a routine eviction enforcement by the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Police Evictions Unit arrived at a studio apartment in the 6200 block of South Dorchester Avenue around 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 27. Officers found Green lying in bed, consistent with the court order naming him as a party to the eviction. Deputies identified the firearm as a loaded pistol that had been reported stolen in Chicago.

Green did not possess a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card, a requirement for carrying the weapon. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charge of possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender following a review by the Sheriff's Police Gun Investigations Team. Green was taken into custody and appeared in court the following day.

Judicial records indicate a history of legal issues for Green dating back to 2016. Prior incidents include domestic battery, assault, battery, and driving under the influence. His most recent citation before this arrest was for driving on a revoked license on Oct. 21, six days prior to the eviction.

Green was ordered into Cook County Jail custody on Oct. 28. The case originated from the Sheriff's Police Evictions Unit, with subsequent investigation conducted by the Gun Investigations Team. Chicago Police Department records provided the background details on his prior arrests.
