John Goodman will play Jack, the father of Claire Danes' character Aggie Wiggs, in the second season of "The Beast in Me." The casting announcement provides the first major character detail for the upcoming season, which Netflix confirmed in September. Danes returns to her Season 1 role, while Goodman steps in to fill a new supporting position in the narrative.

The series began its life as a limited series when Netflix picked it up in 2024. It maintained that label during its Emmy campaign this year, a strategy that proved successful for the cast and crew. Matthew Rhys won the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series for his performance in Season 1. The show also took home the Emmy for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special.

Following the awards season, the production team began exploring the possibility of extending the story. They opened a writers' room earlier this year to develop material for a second season. This move follows a pattern seen in other Netflix limited series, such as "Big Little Lies," which expanded into multiple seasons despite their initial classification.

Howard Gordon, who served as showrunner for Season 1, will co-run the new season. He will share those duties with Daniel Pearle, an executive producer on the first season. Gabe Rotter, the series creator, remains involved as an executive producer. Danes will continue to executive produce while starring in the lead role.

The production slate includes a list of other executive producers: Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O'Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, and Jodie Foster. The series is produced by 20th Television. Specific plot details for Season 2 are currently undisclosed, with the creative team keeping the narrative under wraps for now.

Goodman brings extensive television and film experience to the project. He has received 11 Emmy nominations, including seven for his work on "Roseanne." He won the award for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He also reprised his role as Dan Conner for the "Roseanne" revival, which was renamed "The Conners" and aired for seven additional seasons.

His filmography includes collaborations with the Coen brothers on "Raising Arizona," "Barton Fink," "The Big Lebowski," and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" He has also appeared in "Digger," "Argo," and "Flight." Goodman is represented by the agencies Gersh and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
