Austin F1 track installs coasters
Circuit of the Americas now features two pools and amusement rides to diversify its revenue beyond racing.

Formula 1 returned to Austin this weekend.
The race takes place at the Circuit of the Americas, a permanent facility that has evolved significantly since its opening in 2012.
Kevin Schwanz designed the track layout, while Herman Tilke’s company handled the buildings and infrastructure. The circuit features varied corner speeds, heavy braking zones, and elevation changes. It also includes large run-off areas that distinguish it from the temporary street circuits used in Miami and Las Vegas.
The venue has expanded beyond its original scope. Grassy banks surrounding the track are now covered with hospitality structures. A cable car connects one of these structures to the main paddock building. The complex includes two swimming pools. Rollercoasters and other amusement rides now stand along the venue’s fringes as part of a strategy to operate as a theme park and concert venue in addition to a race track.
COTA was once at risk of being removed from the F1 calendar due to low interest. It is now one of the most popular stops on the schedule and attracts dedicated fans for the United States Grand Prix.
The venue hosts other major motorsport events, including the World Endurance Championship and IMSA races known as the Lone Star Le Mans.
